| BJP criticizes statement of Radha Kumar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 8: Leaders of the state unit of the BJP criticized former interlocutor, Prof. Radha Kumar for her statement that incorporating 73rd constitutional amendment in the state Panchayat Raj Act would amount to further erosion in the state's special status. Senior BJP leader, Dr Nirmal Singh said that for empowering Panchayats the state Government could incorporate some of the provisions of the central Act and once that was done it would not be erosion in the state's special status. Dr Singh said that several central laws had been ext ended to Jammu and Kashmir during the time the NC headed the Government. He said the NC has ruled the state for about 30 years and during this period several central laws were made applicable to the state with approval from the state legislature. And now the NC led Government was delaying empowering Panchayats which could be a blow to democracy in the state. He said the Congress was playing a dubious role. In support of his contention Nirmal Singh said that had the Congress been keen and sincere on empowering Panchayats it should have either mounted pressure on Omar Abdullah to accept the demand for empowering panchayats or should have withdrawn its support to the Government. |
