| DB issues directions to various banks | | | Et Report
Jammu, Nov 8 : In 425 cases challenging the SARFASI, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi after hearing battery of lawyers directed Banks to hold press conference along with State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and other Banks to give vide publicity.
When these petitions taken-up for hearing counsels for the State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank has stated that a press conference would be held in order to give wide publicity to the cases pending under SARFASI Act so that the borrowers may be attracted to settle their cases with the Banks.
The press conference is likely to be held before 10th November, 2013. Secretary Legal Services Authority, High Court of J&K shall hold Pre-Lok Adalat weekly on every Wednesday, so that maximum numbers of cases pertaining to SARFASI Act are settled on 23.11.2013 when the National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held. DB observed that According to the record, there are 425 cases and only 47 cases have been settled so far. " We hope and trust that on account of wide publicity which is likely to be given by the Banks themselves, the rest of the cases would also be settled" the Court directed adding that The other Banks are also directed to join hands by holding press conference along with State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and other Banks and directed Banks to hold press-conference to give vide publicity. |
