Attempts to revive militancy in Poonch busted

Rajouri, Nov 8 : In a major setback to the efforts of reviving subversive activities in Poonch and Rajouri districts, Poonch police have unearthed a Hawala module in Poonch district and have booked one Atif Aslam resident of village Gunthal in Surankot tehsil.
Sources added that Atif was picked up by the Surankot police about 15 days ago and was under sustained interrogation. Sources further added that Atif ,who is associated with hardcore Hurriyat leadership, has disclosed the names of some important Hurriyat leaders from Rajouri and Poonch districts.
According to him some sources of security forces are also involved in this Hawala network Despite repeated attempts no senior police officer from Poonch district has admitted the arrest of Arif . However, when asked by some reporters SP Poonch said that it would be too mature to disclose the details of the investigation as it will hamper the proceedings. Sources further added that police have recovered a pistol and Rs70000 from the possession of Atif which he had kept to pass on to some militants/Hurriyat leaders. Many Hurriyat leaders from Rajouri-Poonch districts associated with hardcore faction have been involved in Hawala network and some of them had been arrested by the Poonch and Rajouri police. The Hawala money is reportedly being smuggled from Cross LoC point in Poonch district and police is also in search of one Mohd Altaf of Poonch town a close associate of Atif.
One Mohd Farooq Khan alias Farooq Dullia S/o Mohd Latief Khan R/o Potha, Surankote was arrested by the Rajouri police and had also recovered Rs. 95,000/- from his possession and have booked him in FIR No. 95/2013 U/S 11/13, 17/20, 40 Unlawful activities (Prevention) Act.During further investigation to dig out the complete linkages of these subversive activities, it has been found that Farooq Dullia, a released militant is district president of JKPM, for Poonch district ,which is patronized from Pakistan and headed by G.A. Mir r/o Thanamandi in Rajouri district.According to police records Farooq Khan is one of the oldest militant from district Poonch who crossed over to Pakistan for arms training in 1990 and was arrested alongwith one pistol & grenades and remained in Jail for more than 2 years. In 2001, he joined JKPM, a constituent of All Party Hurriyat Conference.
Mubasir Latifi district SP while informing the reporters had said that for the last 6 months, he (Farooq) was working as an active conduit in transporting and distributing terrorist money through Hawala transaction received from Saudi Arabia and further handing it over to vice chairman of JKPM Qasir Sajad Mir s/o G.A. Mir for its further distribution to Hurriyat leaders. It has been found that an amount of more than Rs. 11 lac has been received by Farooq Khan from Saudi Arabia through various banks.
On the disclosure of Farooq Khan Rajouri police had also arrested Qasir Sajad Mir , working chairman of JKPM. The matter came to light when the parents of Atif Aslam approached the police few days back about the whereabout of their son lifted by the police.
