| Congress firm against pre-poll alliance with NC | | | ET REPORT Jammu, Nov 11: State Congress leadership has warned party high command against pre-poll alliance with the National Conference . The State leadership has said that any such move would not only be detrimental to the interest of the party in the State, which is hoping to emerge as the single largest party, but would put PDP in an advantageous position. It was in this back drop that former minister and AICC member Abdul Gani Vakil had said last evening at Kashmir that it would be too premature to comment on possible pre-poll alliance and any such decision would be taken by the party high command. Congress sources said National Conference is trying every possible trick to woo top leadership of the party to remain in power. "Cong vice-president Rahul Gandhi was coming for party function and not a state function. Then, when he was received by Devinder Singh Rana one could easily understand what is the thinking in the National Conference," said a Congress leader. State Congress leadership has also communicated to the central leadership that much has been made by the National Conference over the comment of Rahul Gandhi that Omar is his friend. Congress leadership has also communicated to the central leadership that a pre-poll alliance will space of opposition especially in the Jammu region and this could work to the advantage of BJP, which is already in upbeat riding on Modi factor. "Going with NC will give advantage to the BJP in Jammu. We have done all the good work and people know it but if Modi starts bashing the State government, which he will do, then it will be construed as our bashing and Modi could give the message that Cong is siding with Kashmir based party at the expense of interests of the Jammu region and this could prove politicaly very costly for us," said a senior Congress minister. |
