| Modi magnetism in 2008 failed to click in favour of BJP | | Will it work wonders this time in Jammu..........? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 11: After Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's recent visit, the City of temples is all set to see another political heavyweight BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi making it on December 1, gala preparations having been already been set rolling by the party leadership on a fast track. This is Modi's second visit in recent years, the earlier one in 2008 Assembly elections when he made a high voltage campaign in favour of Shilpi Verma, BJP's then candidate for Bishnah Assembly constituency. Modi magnetism pulled huge crowds on the rally venue at that time but it failed to yield any results. The million dollar question remains will Modi magic work wonders this time for Jammu when the party itself is faced with formidable challenges on so many fronts...? Notwithstanding his charismatic spirit loaded with nationalism which was at that point of time woven with sentiments of Amarnath land agitation in the year 2008, Modi's speech was all electrifying when he lambasted Congress to the hilt on multifarious issues ranging from national issues to party's failure to handle the land row. He made a scathing attack against the PDP and even NC which was then in opposition for Omar Abdullah's remarks made in the context of his stand on transfer of state land for creating facilities for the Amarnath pilgrims. It was BJP's experiment rather a best bet at that time to field Shilpi , widow of the first victim of agitation in Jammu , the sentiment and feelings in support of the cause were at its peak that it garnered victory on as many as 11 Assembly segments, something which created history for the party and State politics in BJP making a double digit entry in the Assembly, it could not reap the benefits at a place where it expected most. BJP leadership sensing the mass wave in its favour, kept the name of star campaigner Narendra Modi as most important segment for Bishnah. Modi , who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time, was more than that a poster boy for the party, given his unmatched style of pulling crowd and making an impact too. Though the rally was organised at that time in Bishnah only, amidst beefed up security arrangements, a sea of people converged in Bishnah , from Jammu and its adjacent areas too, mainly to see and hear Modi. He did register himself in a forceful manner on his maiden visit to the State yet the party could not register victory, which, however, is attributed to other reasons that prevailed in this segment, Shilpi's choice also not having worked well for the party in so far as the competitor against the rival was concerned. However, the thrust this time is on his forthcoming Jammu visit at a time when there are no such hard core issues nor any wave as yet in favour of BJP. The party leadership has put its entire hierarchy and all its wings and organisations into action to make the visit successful, which is obviously meant to give impetus to the poll activity in run up to Parliamentary elections next year. Pushing all differences aside and shelving all grudges, the party functionaries and senior leaders are also leaving no chance in giving their bit in terms of contribution and efforts in making it a successful event. It remains to be seen whether Modi visit would work wonders and click as it is in other parts of the country or not. |
