SRINAGAR, Nov 11: Tall claims of clean and transparent governance by the coalition Government have been disgracefully exposed with the appointment of Mohammad Yaseen Qadri as Vice Chairman of J&K Wakf Board despite several criminal cases pending against him in the Crime Branch.
Besides Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Congress also stands exposed on the appointment as Wakf portfolio comes under Congress Minister.
As per details the Vice Chairperson of J&K Wakf Board M Y Qadri has criminal charges pending against him in the State Crime Branch under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (420,468,201). The documents provided by the State Crime Branch under J&K RTI Act 2009 to the RTI applicant Mushtaq Ahmad Lone of Bonyan Budgam (a copy of which is available with Early Times) reveal that the Vice Chairperson of J&K Wakf Board M Y Qardi who was earlier Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University has a case under FIR No: 17/2008 under Sections 420,468 and 201 of RPC pending against him in the Crime Branch Kashmir and the Government ignored such serious charges against him to appoint him as head of an important Government body.
Pertinent to mention here that opposition PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar had lambasted Government over the issue early this year after alleged theft of some articles at Hazratbal shrine by the Wakf Board employees .PDP had demanded that the Government should come out with full facts on the reported theft in the shrine and demanded a thorough probe into the functioning of the Muslim Waqf Board. Naeem Akhtar in a statement some months back said the reported pilferage of copper plates used in the dome of the shrine has hurt the sentiments of the devout apart from the loss caused to the community.
The PDP had demanded that there should be a proper criminal investigation into the theft and people should be taken into confidence on this highly sensitive matter. It seems the Waqf authorities are trying to shield the culprits as there might be more skeletons in their own cupboard he said. "It is a case of breach of faith and borders on disrespect more than a usual theft and deserves a very serious action" Akhtar added.
The PDP had blamed the NC led Government that they selected a person of questionable integrity as its chief executive and vice chairman even as he was facing investigation by the Crime Branch in very serious charges casting doubt about the way Omar Abdullah wanted to run this important institution related to people's faith. Cases are pending against Mr Qadri under Sections 420, 468 and 201 RPC for cheating, forgery and destruction of evidence.
Various social and religious organizations of the state had also demanded that M Y Qadri should be shunted out from the post of VC Wakf Board . The local residents have also demanded that M Y Qadri should be removed from the coveted post of VC.
"The Congress must also build up the pressure on the Government over this matter as the Wakf department is allotted to Congress Minister and we hope that Saif-ud-Din Soz will intervene into this matter and impress upon Omar Abdullah to sack the Vice Chairperson of Wakf Board without any further delay," said Fayaz Ahmad a local resident of Hazratbal area. |
