Workshop on research methods for capacity building organized

Jammu, Nov 13: Department of Commerce (SAP-DRS II), University of Jammu is organizing a two week research workshop on "Capacity Building Programme for University/College Teachers" from 13th- 25th November, 2013.
According to press release, the workshop is being sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. The objective of the present workshop is to develop research capabilities among young faculty. The other specific objectives of the workshop include -- to develop analytical and report writing skills; to enhance and to develop capacity skills in writing research proposals, conducting research, writing research paper for publication in journals/ edited books.
Twenty five applications, out of 40-50 applications received, have been accepted. The selected participants are from different universities/colleges and institutions from states like Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and our own state J&K and belong to different disciplines such as management, commerce, psychology, sociology, economics, history etc.
The first session of the workshop was addressed by Prof Rekha Chowdhary, who shared her views on relevance of research to academia. She also talked about the important issues related to research e.g. research area, research interest, research infrastructure and needed research environment. She delved upon plagiarism and research ethics. The significant methods of qualitative research such as observation etc. were also discussed. The participants interacted on which method/should be adopted initially for starting research. The post lunch session lecture was delivered by Prof Kulwant Kaur, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu on research design and research proposal. Prof Kaur discussed in detail the various steps useful for conducting research, besides discussing about the research characteristics.
