Azad is reaching Ramban on November 14 on a three days visit to erstwhile Doda district. For the last quite some time Azad has become active in State politics. Recently Azad had conducted an extensive tour of cross firing affected border areas. He spent two days at Jammu and interacted with cross sections of the society. Sources in the Congress said that Azad has directed his supporters to intensify their activities in their respective areas. Azad loyalists have started touring different areas of Jammu region to strengthen the party. They have been directed by this leader to convene meeting of party workers at different places. Azad's loyalists claimed that the Union Minister's frequent visits indicated that he (Azad) was keen to play greater role in Jammu and Kashmir politics in the days to come. The Congress in Jammu and Kashmir is divided between warring factions- one headed by PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and other by the loyalists of Azad. Azad has intensified his activities in the State. While addressing a function at PCC headquarters on October 30, Azad gave hints about his role in the State politics in the days to come. He had advised his party Ministers to visit the areas where Congress is weak so as to ensure maximum seats for the party in the next Assembly elections. Azad loyalists are also encouraged over his frequent visit to J&K and they are hopeful that Azad will take charge of the party before Assembly elections. |
