| Accuse him of misleading people like Sheikh Abdullah | | Kashmiri leaders wary of Geelani | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 13: Hurriyat hardliner Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani who has been put into dock for his statement saying armed struggle was the only option for the self determination of Kashmiris by various main stream organizations yesterday has now been reprimanded by the youth and various leaders of political parties in Kashmir. Taking on Geelani BJP Muslim Morcha State president Mushtaq Ahmed Noorabadi said that same statement of self-determination and plebiscite was given by former Chief Minister of State and NC leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to blackmail India after he was jailed in 1953. But this slogan was confined to taking reins of State Government in 1975. During this period hundreds of people laid down their lives and the roots of present turmoil were also sown during that period, he added. He said Sheikh misguided the youth in the name of so called Azadi for 22 long years and later this entire drama ended when he was installed as Chief Minister of State in 1975. "Now Geelani is also toeing the same line and talking about the self determination," he said. He asked Hurriyat hardliner not to mislead people in the name of self determination. He should openly confess that he wants chair like Sheikh Abdullah and people of State will install him on the seat of power. This way thousands of innocent people will be saved from being killed on the name of so called Jehad which we faced since 1989, he added. He said Geelani should refrain from making such statements in future and mislead the innocent Kashmiris as this will spoil the future of youth. Taking on Geelani Abdul Qayoom a student leader from South Kashmir said that Geelani and others can't hoodwink Kashmiris for their vested interests as they have suffered a lot over the years of turmoil. He said when Geelani was for self determination why he contested Assembly elections earlier and took oath under Indian Constitution as an MLA twice. This shows that he wanted to have the cake and eat it too, he added. Qayoom said the youth of Kashmir have seen through their game plan and they will not allow anyone to mislead them in future. He said that self determination and plebiscite slogans have been discarded and no youth in Valley can be swayed on these slogans any more now. Supporting him Ishtiyaq Wani another youth leader from Kishtwar said that there are no takers for Geelani's slogans as people of the State are totally fed up with the 24 year long turmoil, killings and destruction. He asked Geelani to hold his tongue in future and not to impose himself as savior of Kashmiris and leave them to their fate so that they can themselves decide their destiny. Wani said it has become a routine affair for some so called Kashmiri leaders to blackmail India in the name of Azadi. |
