| Local contractors destroying green cover, authorities mum | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Nov 13: The dwindling green cover in Ramnagar and Billawar division could be attributed to alleged nexus of officials of Forest division Ramnagar and Billawar and local contractors. Sources said that Forest officials have deep rooted nexus with Resin extraction contractors and Rural Development Department officials of block Dudu Basantgarh. "Local contractors are hell bent to destroy the green forest on the pretext of road construction and extraction of Resin in brazen violation of J&K Forest Act, Soil conservation Act", they said, adding that despite complaint before the Forest department, nothing has materialized after the lapse of about one year.
J&K Far Flung Area Association brought the mater in the notice of all the senior officers of the Forest Department as well as J&K Government Forest Protection Force and Forest Minister but in vain. "Even Forest Minister's direction to verify the complaint by some senior forest officer from Jammu couldn't complied by the Forest Department as yet", they said. State President of Association MS Thakur disclosed DFO Billawar and DFO Ramnagar issued F-25 to the contractor for Resin extraction, despite the fact that a series complaint are pending against him.
Thakur regretted and vociferously condemned the role of the Forest Department higher authorities for failure to timely and even belatedly checking the damage caused to the Forest. He demanded a probe of matter. |
