Kulgam, Nov 13: Army today said that militants are present in large number in South Kashmir's Kulgam district and can disrupt the forthcoming Parliament and Assembly elections. From past one week, Army is receiving inputs about the presence and movement of militants in various hamlets of Kulgam district. Locals said that from past one week, Army is raiding various hamlets to flush out militants. Search operations have been conducted in Srandoo, Khandipora, Gopbal, Laroo, Shurat and Naikpora. Commanding Officer Jamwal of 9 RR said to a local news agency that they continuously receive inputs about the presence of militants. "As we cordon off the area, the militants flee from the spot. They are evading arrest and don't confront us," he said. He further said that militants are present in large numbers in Kulgam town and Army is after them. "They could disrupt the forthcoming Parliamentary and Assembly elections if not neutralized. We are after them and hopefully the Army will get them sooner or later," he said adding that militants so far managed to break the cordon laid down by Army in various hamlets of Kulgam town. |
