| Congress likely to win 65 seats in MP, BJP 155 | | Pre-poll survey | | Rustam JAMMU, Nov 21: On November 14, Nielsen conducted pre-poll survey in Madhya Pradesh (MP) for private TV news channel ABP News and leading Hindi language daily Dainik Bhaskar. The BJP has been ruling MP since 2003 without break. The survey teams interviewed 21,000 eligible voters covering 21 Lok Sabha constituencies. The findings were broadcasted on Wednesday between 7 and 9 p.m. The pre-poll survey said that the Congress would win only 65 seats in the 230-member House, as against its 2008 tally of 71 - a loss of six seats, and the BJP 155, as against its previous tally of 143 seats - a gain of 12 seats. In other words, the pre-poll survey said that if elections are held now the BJP would increase its tally and the Congress would suffer a humiliating defeat. The people of MP will go to the polls on November 25 and elect a new government. Other significant findings were (1) a whopping 78 per cent people said they would want the incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chohan to lead the state once again, (2) only 14 per cent expressed their faith in Jyoti Sindhia and (3) the BJP is popular in all the six regions of the state, including Malwa, Gwalior-Chambal, Bundhelkhand, Baghelkhand, Maha Kaushal and Madhya Bharat. Besides, the pre-poll survey said that while the BJP is united, the Congress is divided into several factions with each of them trying to let down the others. To be more precise, the survey said that the Congress is so weak in MP that it can't think in terms of recapturing political power in the state it lost to the BJP a decade ago when Digvijay Singh, presently AICC general secretary and Rahul Gandhi's political guru, was at the helm of affairs. It is also clear that the nature of the Congress-led UPA rule has also contributed very significantly to the decline of the Congress party in MP like other states of the union. All in all, it can be said that the Congress is in great trouble. |
