Pre-empting role in Delhi, PDP announces winnable candidates for Lok Sabha elections
11/21/2013 11:16:10 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 21: Decision of opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to field Mehbooba Mufti from Anantnag Lok Sabha as party candidate is a clear indication that party has realised its mistake of nominating weak candidates in 2009 Lok Sabha elections, especially in three seats of Kashmir Valley.
Instead of fielding winnable candidates PDP had fielded weak candidates in all the three Parliamentary segments of Kashmir so party failed to win even a single seat despite the fact that in 2008 Assembly elections PDP had got more votes as compared to National Conference in Kashmir Valley. The party had lost even Anantnag Lok Sabha segment of South Kashmir which is widely considered as strong hold of Muftis.
Insiders in the PDP said that this time party has decided to contest Lok Sabha elections very seriously because party has released representation in Lok Sabha is must to highlight party's view point at national level. Since 2009, PDP's view point is not highlighted in the Parliament because party does not have any representatives in any House.
Furthermore, there is feeling among PDP leaders that no party would be in a position to form government on its own in 2014 elections so every seat would be crucial in government formation so party want to play its role in it. PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is himself monitoring Lok Sabha elections and devising strategy for Parliament elections.
Sources said that party is also seriously thinking to field former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig from Baramulla Lok Sabha segment to give a tough fight to ruling National Conference (NC) in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Party has already announced MLC Yash Pal Sharma, as a candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat. Sharma is considered as strong candidate.
Political experts are of the opinion that in case UPA and NDA failed to get majority in the next Lok Sabha elections, Third Front would take claim on the formation of government so PDP would be part of that Third Front group.
