VC flags off JU cricket team

JAMMU, Nov 22: Vice Chancellor, Prof MPS Ishar today flagged-off the University of Jammu employees cricket team for particpation in the All India Vice-Chancellor's Twenty20 Cricket Cup being organised by Punjabi University, Pataila from November 25 to December 5.
Wishing the team best of luck in the competition, Prof. Ishar hoped that team will fare well in the tournament and bring laurels to the institution.
Reached final last year, the JU has already won this tournament twice in 2009 and 2010 in Mumbai and in Kashmir respectively. The competition shall take place on League-cum -Knockout basis. In all, 20 teams from across the country are taking part in this event.
Among others present were Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhain Singh Bhau, Jai Kumar Sharma, Vinay Thusoo and Imran Farooq.
The Team: Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba (Captain), Ameet Targotra (Vice-Captain), Dr Parikshit Singh Manhas, Akash Bhola, Rajesh Verma, Vishal Sudan, Noor-ul-Asrar-Beg, Sumit Sharma, Pawan Singh, Niranjan Singh Charak, Dr. Sandeep Arya, Sandeep Bakshi Surinder Singh, Shammi Bhagat,Ram singh Rajkumar Bakshi, Sunil Sahi (Manager), Parvesh Ratta (Assistant Manager).

Shooting team leaves for NZ meet

JAMMU, Nov 22: An 18-member state shooting team today left for participation in the 33rd North Zone Shooting Championship to be held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi from tomorrow.
The championship is being organized by the National Rifle Association of India and the participating teams included Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The competition shall be held in.177 Air Rifle,/ Air Pistol and .22 Rifle individual and team events, besides standard pistol competition, a handout issued by the J&K Rifle Association Association here today said.
Earlier, the Association organized a coaching camp for the selected shooters at Delhi Public School Shooting Hall under the supervision of J&K Police coach, Rajesh Virdhy.
The team was formally flagged off by the Principal of DPS, S Sonar. He was accompanied by the Director Physical Education of School, Dr Prem Singh.
The Team: Sunmoon Singh, Abhay Gupta, Sangram Singh, Kalhan Bhat, Saumya Saksena and Shreya Saksena, Vijay Kumar, Mohan Lal, Kulbir Singh, Janak Raj Subash Chander, Ranjit Singh, Mirnal Sawal, Angad Walia, Sahil Sharma, Sarfarosh Sharma, Pawan Kishore. Rajesh Virdhy accompanied the team as coach cum manager.

State Athletics meet from Dec 9

JAMMU, Nov 22: Organised by the Amateur Athletics Association of Jammu and Kahsmir, the State Championship shall take place at MA Stadium here from December 9.
For the two-day competition, the Association has invited entires from interested athletes in both boys and girls sections. Entries can be submitted with senior athletic coach of the State Sports Council, Sohan Singh on or before December nine to confirm the participation, a handout issued here today said.
