Sports Reporter AKHNOOR, Nov 22: Jammu district shall be playing against Poonch in the boys final of the State Volleyball Championship, organised by Volleyball Association of J&K at Government Higher Secondary School grounds, here tomorrow at 11 am. In the semifinals, played today, Jammu outplayed Udhampur district in straight sets of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 while Poonch trounced their counterparts from district Kathua 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18). Earlier, on the basis of their standing in the group matches, top eight teams qualified for the knock-out stages of quarterfinals in the morning session. Teams reaching the last eight stages were Poonch, Jammu, Rajouri, Samba, Udhampur, Ramban, Kathua and Baramullah. THE Results: Quarterfinals: Poonch bt Rajouri 25-14, 25-12; Jammu bt Samba 25-22, 25-15; Kathua bt Ramban 25-14, 25-19; Udhampur bt Baramulla 25-21, 25-23, 15-11. Meanwhile, in girl section, Jammu district shall compete agaisnt district Samba to make it a double title. Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Samba trounced district Poonch in straight sets of 25-17, 25-17, 25-08. Jammu defeated Rajouri in similar fashions in other semifinal making it 25-21, 25-11, 25-15. Today's matches were officiated by the technical penal including Amarjit Singh, Amit Sharma, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Balwan Singh, Manik Nargotra, Mohd Tariq, Wali Mohammad and Harish Sharma. |
