Jammu, Nov 22: "Our democracy grants right to study and take exams even to the hardcore criminals, prisoners but we students are deliberately being denied of same right", this was a simple question posed by students before state government, who have been observing fast unto death strike for the last three days, seeking permission to take exams, but adamant JU authorities have unmoved so far. Demanding immediate revocation, suspension and allow them to sit in upcoming exams, the fast unto death strike of MS Bhatti, Talib Hussain, Marvi Slathia and Cathleen Kour today entered 3rd day. The condition of protesting students is deteriorating with each passing day but no physical checkup has been done so far. Many social and students organization have extended their support while delegation of People Democratic Students Union (PDSU), All India Students Federation (AISF) visited Dharna site. A protest demonstration was organized in Commerce College in support of the students on strike. Moreover, Peoples Democratic Party leader, former Member Parliament Trilok Singh Bajwa, former MLC Ved Mahajan and Hussain Ali Wafa visited the dharna site and supported the fasting students. Extended their full support, AISF state president Engineer Ajaz Ahmed said that the university administration has done grave injustice with the students by rusticating and suspending and the action taken was one-sided. He said that it was shameful that no security and medical checkup was provided to the students on hunger strike. "It is shameful that JU administration can establish a police station in the campus but can't provide security to the students on hunger strike", he lamented. However extending full support of his organization he said that his organization would also organize protests in various colleges wherever possible. Sandeep Singh Wazir- State in-charge, Peoples’ Democratic Students Union (PDSU) also visited the spot of hunger strike and extended full support. "Rustication and suspension of scholars and students is illegal and undemocratic", he said. Retired SSP and Gojri Writer, Sarvar Choudhary, Choudhary Nazakat Khatana also visited the spot. Supporting the cause Sarvar Choudhary said that the female students have been bravely struggling for the cause. Udhampur Youth President- Aijaz Sumbadia warned the administration that "In case the illegal decision will not be revoked, we will make a big issue involving the entire society. He quoted that "Injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice everywhere".Meanwhile ,a delegation of students of various departments of JU met VC for the revocation of rustication and suspension so that they could appear in the examination, which are going to start in first week of December. Others who visited and supported the hunger strike include Advocate Benish Kazmi and Himani Jamwal, Jagjit Singh, Yogesh Kumar, Raman Kumar, Sayed Jafri, Manzoor Rehman beside others. The main demands of the students on hunger strike are establishment of Gojri and Pahari research center in JU campus, revocation of suspension and rustication of students, revocation of frivolous cases against the students. |
