| Decision to table compensation for displaced persons, refugees in Cabinet meeting welcomed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 22: Welcoming the decision of State Government to table compensation for the displaced persons/refugees in next Cabinet meeting, former Minister and senior Congress leader today appealed the Jammu and Kashmir's coalition Government to grant equal distribution of relief among the urban and rural people, who faced same consequences of wars and then their displacement. Singh, while issuing his statement here, said, though it was a delayed step but the Government should be appreciated for its bold step to give relief to the displaced persons/refugees of the State. "They have decided to put the proposal for approval in the cabinet meeting," Singh said, expressing hope that the pending demands of the displaced persons would be accepted in one go. He said that the Government would also have to send a proposal to the Union Government regarding refugees/displaced persons. Appreciating all the political parties, who have fought for the right of refugees/displaced persons, Manjit Singh said that the Government was taking this step following long struggle of the organizations and political parties who wanted settlement of these persons. The senior Congress minister also appealed the Government that there should not be any disparity between the rural or urban displaced persons since both were affected equally and relief should be distributed equally. As it was reported that rural displaced persons/refugees would be given Rs 15 lakh and urban would be given Rs 20 lakh compensation, he said, he would not serve the purpose because all the displaced persons/refugees were equally suffers of the wars between India and Pakistan. |
