Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 23 : All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (Shri Sanatan Dharam Yuvak Sabha) other day protested outside the Raj Bhawan, Jammu to draw the attention of the state and central governments towards the pressing problems of the Kashmiri Pandit community. The community members in large numbers expressed total dismay and concern over the attitude and the policies of the state and central governments towards resolving the problems of the exiled community. They shouted slogans in favour of granting Homeland in the valley of Kashmir itself with full and free flow of Indian constitution and protection of all constitutional rights of the community.
A memorandum on behalf of the community was presented to the Governor by the ASKPC leadership highlighting their various demands. Addressing the gathering, the President of the ASKPC HL Chatta lambasted the state as well as the central government for not showing any keen interest in resolving the problems faced by the community. He said that the long pending demand of the community to declare it as "internally displaced" and according refugee status has not been conceded so far.
Swami Kumar Ji exhorted the gathering to get united for fighting against the systematic erosion of the left out signs and symbols of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley and put in all efforts to preserve, protect and save the temples, shrines and other religious, cultural and historical Hindu places and property. He said that the government must pass the Hindu Shrines and Temples bill without any further delay. RK Raina, Sr. Vice President called upon the community members to get ready now to intensify the struggle for achieving a Homeland in the valley as a permanent solution to the exodus and genocide of the KP community. He in the mean time demanded immediate cash hike to minimum of Rs. 15000 to the identified displaced KP families as it is difficult for them to sustain in these days of high prices and inflation.
Veena Gurtoo, President of the Womens' wing expressed dismay over the way the PM's employment package was handled by the government and the stringent conditions attached with such appointments. She demanded that for reasons already better known to the state government, all women KP employees should be adjusted in Jammu division. She demanded one time (full life time) package of Rs. 25 lacs to the over-aged unemployed youth of the exiled community. DN Kissu, a senior community leader expressed concern over the fact that not only the land mafia but the fundamentalist groups in league with the state government to encroach upon the Hindu temples and shrines property so much so, that even cremation grounds have not been spared.
The agitating members of the community were carrying placards in their hands highlighting their various problems.
The meeting was also addressed among others by the President Youth Wing Ravi Raina, Prof. SK Bhat, Shiban Khaibri, Subash Chatta, BL Handoo, Bharat Bushan, Fotra, Chand Ji Khar (ASKPC Jagti) and others.
