| HC restrains docs from accepting gifts from Pharma companies | | | S.Sabaqat SRINAGAR, Dec 23: High Court today restrained doctors practicing in Jammu and Kashmir from accepting any kinds of gifts from Pharmaceutical Companies and asked them not to travel either within the country or abroad at their expenses. "All Pharmaceutical Companies are restrained from giving gifts of any kind whatsoever to doctors who are practicing in the field of medicine," said a Division Bench comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Tashi Rabstan while Public Interest Litigation. PIL demands action against those doctors who receive cash and gifts from medical companies to prescribe medicine to the patients. The respondents in the PIL include state through Chief Secretary, Commissioner Health and Medical Education, Director SKIMS, Director Health, Principals of GMC Srinagar and Jammu, Medical Council Of India, DGP, IGP crime, Micro Labs Ltd. The PIL filed by three persons from Srinagar through advocate Qazi Ayaz demand action against doctors who are involved in the commission and omission of offences involving receiving of kickbacks and freebies to prescribe medicine. Petitioners also demand ascertaining assets of such doctors and cancellation of their licenses. They also demanded constitution of taskforce to look into such type of offences and also seek black listing of the companies who are offering cash, freebies or Kickbacks. They also seek action against the representatives who are promoting corruption in medical profession and also seek imparting of moral education to medical students during their training in medical colleges.
