| Sham takes NC head on, advocates power to people over autonomy | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 23: : Launching another direct attack on NC, Minister for PHE Sham Lal Sharma today said that neither Autonomy nor Self-rule are going to redress issues of the commoners across Jammu and Kashmir but power to the people would make the state vibrant and strong.
"Neither Self-rule nor Autonomy are going to make people happier and progressive but it is power to the people, which is essence of real democracy. Those propagating these ideas would do well to their ownself if they empower people at grassroots and give them power to take decisions for their betterment. People want progressive democracy and all round development," said Sham Lal Sharma while addressing Krishi Divas function organised by Jammu and Kashmir Agri Entrepreneurship Development Association (JKAEDA) at Sawankha in Samba today.
He maintained that emotive issues used to fetch votes in the past but it is highly unlikely that the trend would continue even today. "Times have changed. People know cost of their vote. They prefer politics of development over emotive, religious and regional politics. I am firm believer of empowering people and giving them right to decide their destiny," added Sham.
He maintained that Congress has sole agenda of empowering each and every individual in Jammu and Kashmir. "No compromise on developmental issues is what I believe. I have pursued politics of progress and would continue to do so in future. I am not going to allow negative politics and communal outpourings to ruin the all round development of Jammu and Kashmir," added Sham.
Referring to BJP, Sham Lal said that the party has no chance of even dreaming of forming government. "They cannot form government since neither the topography nor geography of this state suits their brand of politics. Congress is the only alternative that people of this state have. So, use your intellect and take decisions which would actually empower Jammu region and help it in redressing issues of underdevelopment and backwardness that are plaguing us," added Sham.
He maintained that emotive issues do fetch votes but do not bring desired results. "I would like to take this opportunity to tell you that of the 17 Congress MLAs, 13 are ministers. So if you take wise decision, government would be all yours. Let not emotive issues and communal elements deviate your path. I am hopeful, you people would not disappoint Congress and reassert your faith in it," added Sham.
