Amidst allegations of misappropriation, Minister, MLAs converge to inaugurate Pahari Girls Hostel

Rajouri, Dec 23 : With elections winds beginning to blow across the state, Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and politicians have started luring the voters by organizing stone laying, inauguration ceremonies of development projects included those which had started years back and are still incomplete.
In one such attempt Social Welfare department (SWD) Rajouri is organizing a function for the inauguration of Pahari girls hostel at Rajouri being inaugurated by Kafeer-ul-Rehman , vice chairman JK Pahari Welfare Advisory Board (JKPAB) in the presence of Health Minister (I/C) Shabir Khan, MLAs and MLCs from Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Pertinent to mention here that a building was hired on rent for Pahari girls hostel for Rs 36000/- per month from February,2013 and till date no girl has taken any admission in the hostel and the authorities have also failed to appoint woman warden. Reliable sources said that the building was officially handed over to the SWD in the month of September and the officials in nexus with higher authorities at Pahari Welfare Advisory Board have released rent from the month of February and also released funds for the purchasing of uniforms, diet while there was no admission till December 23, as alleged by Shahnawaz Khan and SK Mughal associated with Social Justice NGO.
Members of Social Justice have alleged that the concerned officials have misappropriated some share of the funds released for rent, uniforms and diet for the Pahari girls hostel and demanded an investigation in this matter.
When contacted district social welfare officer, who is presently in-charge of Pahari girls hostel said that about 50 girls have enrolled themselves for the admission in the hostel. But deputy warden Shabaz Khan who is also headmaster of girls middle school said that 50 girls had taken admission in the Gujjar hostel and they are studying in his school.
"As for as Pahari girls hostel is concerned no girl has applied for the admission till today" said Shabaz Khan. NGO officials also alleged that there was large scale misappropriation of government funds by the warden of the boys Pahari hostel who retired on October,31. Authorities have failed to appoint a new warden after his retirement. "He is still occupying the warden room in the hostel and has not handed over the charges to ay body, SK Mughal alleged . Social Welfare Officer, Mehmood , who is also in-charge warden boys Pahari hostel when contacted said that he has not taken the charge of the hostel from the outgoing warden.
