| Fresh Snowfall cuts Kashmir from rest of world | | Road,rail,air traffic remains suspended | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Jan 9 : Season's third snowfall put the life at standstill in Kashmir after this snow prone division of Jammu and Kashmir remained cut off from rest of the world for second day today due to suspension of road, air and rail connectivity with rest of the world. Kashmir division remained cut off from rest of the world after heavy snowfall along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and along the rail road track, thereby forcing authorities to suspend moment of vehicles on all weather Srinagar-Jammu national highway and railway authorities to suspend rail connectivity between Qazigund side of Kashmir up to Banihal due to accumulation of snow at many places on rail road, besides air traffic connecting kashmir with rest of the world also remained affected due to bad weather. According to the details received, the all important 294-km only road link from Kashmir up to jammu was closed on Wednesday afternoon after heavy snowfall started in Jawahir Nagar, Banihal and Patnitop areas followed by thick layer of snow which started accumulating on the road in these areas. However according to the details received from Traffic control unit Ramban, incase authorities feel any relaxation in snowfall along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway till late evening today all the stranded vehicles along the road which include loaded trucks, Buses and Light Motor Vehicles and other vehicles can allowed to move on Srinagar -Jammu national highway so that human lives can be saved on first priority. They said that road was closed yesterday afternoon fresh snowfall occurred during the night in Bannihal and Patnitop sectors followed by slippery condition on the road and later keeping in view safety of passengers history of road highway was closed immediately while as men and machinery were put on work at many places to make the road travel worthy immediately. The details reveal that arround one and half feet snow had accumulated on the road in Bannihal and Patnitop areas till this morning and the snowfall was going on till later afternoon, however later authorities were preparing to allow moment of stranded vehicles on the road when reports last came from the area. Pertinently the rail service between Bannihal and Baramulla district of North kashmir was also suspended due to heavy snowfall along the road. Meanwhile according to the Met officials, a fresh wave of western disturbances has settled over Kashmir since yesterday and weather is expected to improve by arround Friday, however they forecasted that till Friday cold conditions will persist and night temperature may further fall in kashmir division. |
