| Avalanche hits army post in Machil, two feared dead | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 9: Two army troopers was were feared buried alive after an army post came under an avalanche at Machil sector in north Kashmir's frontier Kupwara district on Thursday. Official sources said that two army men of 5 ASSAM (D Company) were buried alive when a snow avalanche hit an army post near Muthal top in Machil sector of the district late today afternoon. Later, a rescue operation was launched by the forces recovering one of the soldiers in critical conditions while the searches were going on to find another soldier. The injured soldier was immediately shifted to nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries, sources said. A senior army official while confirming the incident said that one of the missing soldiers retrieved from the avalanche and later he succumbed in the hospital. Regarding another soldier Niak W Lampa Konyak (32 years old) (belt no. 4369289-W, he said that rescue operations are on in the area to locate the missing trooper. He identified the dead soldier as Thoumdan Singh (29-years-old) (belt no. 4372029-W). Pertinently on December 25, 2013, a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, Hawaldar Rotaz Singh died while another , Sumesh Kumar of 69 Bn went missing when the duo slipped from the mountain track about 300 ft deep at Machil Sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. |
