Sandeep Bhat JAMMU, Jan 13: The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah may serve the country in central stage (Centre), and is fast losing interest in serving the state. Though with great enthusiasm, he started his career in state politics as young Chief Minister on January 5, 2009. He was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir raising hope amongst the people of Jammu and Kashmir who had been reeling under insurgency and violence since 1989. The initial hick up when Omar send his resignation to Governor which was not accepted following the killing of 120 youth of Kashmir in 2010, the difference emerging with Congress on 73rd amendment of Panchayat Raj and AFSPA, the war of words between his Uncle and MLA Mustafa Kamaal and Congress leaders upset Omar and to some extent tarnishes his image as Chief Minister. If insiders are to be believed, after his separation with wife Payal, he was unable to set things in right perspective. The inner party pressure, dropping of senior Ministers and appointing of new team of young Ministers created fissures in party cadre. The removal of two important advisors, one from Kashmir and one from Jammu from their posts was a clear indication of his mood and tried to send message among masses. The recent BOPEE scam, Haji Yusuf killings: Kishtwar violence, Kashmir summer unrest in 2010, Govt employees agitation and unemployed youth frustration are the vital issues where Omar and his Government failed miserably. In 2009, Omar Abdullah was accused of covering up the rape and murder of two young women in Shopian. Many regarded this as Abdullah's first failure as even moderates felt Abdullah had bowed to pressure from New Delhi. He was again criticized for unable to bring Kishtwar clashes under control. NC- Cong led coalition Govt will complete its full term but, for Omar Abdullah, all is not well in Jammu and Kashmir. |
