| Cong high command asks state leadership to find respectable middle way to ease tension | | Controversy over creating new administrative units | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 13: Although State unit of Congress is prepared for breakup of alliance with National Conference, the party high command is not interested to snap ties with coalition partner at this juncture. Insiders in the Congress said that high command has advised local leadership to find a middle way in solution of the serious problem which has been emerged due to "adamant" attitude of the National Conference to create administrative units as per the recommendations of Mushtaq Ahmed Ganaie Committee report. The local unit has made it clear to the high command that succumbing before National Conference on the issue of creating administrative units would have dangerous ramifications for the party in Jammu region because BJP will play regional card to corner Congress for bartering Jammu's interest for the lust of power. The Mushtaq Ahmed Ganaie Committee report has reportedly recommended large number of administrative units for Kashmir valley but deserving areas of Jammu province especially erstwhile Doda district have been ignored. Congress leadership has a number of times termed Ganaie Committee report as discriminatory so local leadership has made its mind that let the National Conference leadership snap ties with Congress on this issue but there is no question of accepting recommendations of the committee at this juncture. Insiders said that Congress high command does not want to give any wrong message at this juncture due to coming Lok Sabha elections so local leadership has been asked to find a respectable middle way to buy time on the issue which has potential to rock the coalition. Some Congress leaders on the condition of anonymity said that Congress members in the Cabinet Sub-Committee would take their time to prepare their reports so automatically National Conference would not be in a position to any decision on its own. National Conference leadership is thinking that creating of administrative units would be trump card for the party to strength its base in Jammu. Kashmir valley to NC wants to make new administrative units at any cost especially before the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, voices of anger have started emanating from different areas of the state despite the fact that Cabinet Sub Committee has yet to submit its report. Creation of new administrative units is likely to open new Pandora Box in the state so Congress has been moving cautiously. |
