| CEO doesn't have revised voter list | | LS Elections round the corner | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 13: As the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jammu and Kashmir is still busy in collecting the revised electoral roll. As the Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath has said in Washington on Sunday that the Election Commission (EC) had already started preparations for the 2014 elections in which 780 million people are likely to cast their votes at over 800,000 polling booths, using over 1.18 million electronic voting machines and the phases will be started from mid March 2014, the CEO Jammu and Kashmir should have been prepared with the revised list of the voters. The website of the CEO J&K has only the list of 2008 electoral roll, when contacted the office of the CEO, the officials have informed that they are already in process of preparing the lists and it will be ready by January 31. Sohail Naski, a voter was there in the office of the CEO to check his election card said, "I was here to check the status of my election card, but the officials have told that it will take some more time, and I should check it with my Block Level Officer (BLO)." "It sounds so funny that Lok Sabha elections are round the corner and they do not have the updated list. They will again make mistakes in the names and addresses in the voter lists and the voter will not be able to correct it because of the shortage of time," he added. The Assembly elections are also due in the state in 2014 after the Lok Sabha elections. It is pertinent to mention here that this is the long pending complains of the general masses in Jammu and Kashmir that the office of the CEO makes many mistakes in name and address of the voters of the state. Even many of the names are in more than one list of the electoral poll. |
