Jammu, Jan 28: The School of Business, SMVDU, in association with MSME Development Institute - Jammu, organized a one day sensitization program on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) - Challenges and Practices, for the students of SMVDU, Katra. According to press release, in the inaugural address, Prof Sudhir K Jain, the Vice Chancellor SMVDU explained the background of IPR and its predecessor GATT. He urged students of J&K to take benefit of the resources of the region and establish their own industries and participate in the development of the state. The inaugural address was also addressed by Annil Suri, Chairman, Federation of Industries, Jammu. The Dean Faculty of Management studies, Prof D Mukhopadhyay and Prof V Verma, Director School of Biotechnology and Dear Faculty of Engineering also contributed towards the topic. The key resource of the workshop was D C Gabriel, a senior attorney in K&S partners, Delhi, who explained in detail the importance of registering patents to protect Trademarks, Products and Processes. He discussed in detail, the features of IPR and also highlighted the benefits of the implementation of the IPR regime. The next resource person for the workshop was Prof V Verma who deliberated on the drafting of a patent application and the process of patent filing. The final session of the workshop was taken by Prof Jain who deliberated in the area of WTO, Geographical Indicator and Traditional knowledge etc. |
