Akshay Azad JAMMU, Jan 28: The concerned officials of Roads and Building department are under scanner, as building of Primary Health Center (PHC) Yaripora, constructed at a cost of over Rs. 5 Crores has developed wide cracks, even before its commissioning. Sources informed Early Times that the construction work on Primary Health Center Yaripora was started around three years back by Roads and Building department. "The cost of construction is more than Rs. 5 Crores and construction work has just completed; the building is yet to be handed over to Health department, but same has developed cracks", sources said. They further said that cracks in newly constructed building have raised several questions on the competence and integrity of the officials of Department of Roads and Building. "It can be attributed to negligence on part of authorities in studying nature of land on which the building is constructed, use of sub standard material, tremors, beside others", an official pleading anonymity said, adding that the accountability should be fixed after proper enquiry. Sources further said that many buildings constructed by Government agencies have developed cracks in past. "Similar types of cracks also developed in the building of Primary Health Center (PHC) Bhatpora-Magham in district Kupwara, which was constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC), at a cost of Rs. 2.16 Crores", they said, adding that after proper enquiry of the incident, the enquiry committee had recommended deduction of fine from the salaries of concerned Engineers of construction Company. They further said that similar types of cracks were also developed in Community Health Center Khour. "Developing of cracks in Government buildings especially the health centers is a grave issue and should be investigated thoroughly. Huge amount of money is siphoned off by the concerned engineers and contractors, who use sub standard material in the construction work", an official alleged. |
