| Crisis reaches Delhi, Omar firm on his stand on resignation | | NC-Cong fight over creation of new units escalates | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Jan 28: The five year long relationship between the National Conference and Congress in Jammu and Kashmir seems to be heading for premature divorce as the fight between the two coalition partners has reached the Delhi Darbar where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has made clear that he will resign in case the Cabinet Sub Committee on creation of new administrative units headed by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand did not submit its report on time. As per the National Conference sources, Omar Abdullah is desperate to implement the decision of creation of new administration units in state well before the implementation of code of conduct for Parliamentary election. They added that NC perceives Congress leadership as the biggest hurdle in the implementation of the decision. The sources added that Omar Abdullah is firm on his stand and added that he will resign on February 2 in case the Congress did not agree to implement the decision on creation of new administrative units. NC sources said that Chief Minister has already informed about his decision to Congress leadership at the Centre. Later, senior NC leader also herded at Delhi wherein the party discussed the situation threadbare. The sources said that NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah also held a detail discussion over the issue with senior party leaders and Ministers who showed his full support to any decision if taken by the party president or by the Chief Minister. During the course of one hour meeting, NC leadership has decided not to succumb to Congress pressure over the issue. The NC leadership feels that implementation of report on creation of new administrative units will help the party to save the party ship from sinking in next election as the party has lost his ground to PDP in Kashmir and other Muslim belts of the state. Meanwhile, Congress Ministers who were part of the Cabinet sub-committee on creation of new administrative units has also held a meeting with Congress party high command at Delhi, where the party leaders briefed the high command about the decision. The Congress state leadership informed the party High Command that any decision with regard to creation of new administration units need a detail deliberation and discussion and added that any decision taken in hesitation will result in fire. They also informed the party leadership about the progress of the committee and added that the committee has received over 3000 memoranda with regard to creation of new administrative units. The Congress sources added that Congress party is in favour of creation of new administrative units, but not at the cost of injustice with Jammu Division. The Congress party leadership stresses that Jammu Division including hilly Districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, beside Rajouri and Poonch Districts need to be given more priorities in terms of creation of new administrative units. The Congress sources said that party leadership has briefed the party high command about the reservation and repercussion with regard to creation of new administrative units and urged the party leadership to take the final decision over the issue by taking the aspiration of the people of Jammu region into consideration. The sources said that State Congress leadership has shown his full faith in the leadership of party President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and JKPCC President Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz to take the final call over the issue. |
