| Cong leaders ask high command to get them rid of "arrogant" NC | | Party leaders favour alliance with PDP for smooth sailing | | Early Times Report NEW DELHI, Jan 28: Congress leaders today made it clear before the party high command that any further surrender before the National Conference would prove disastrous for the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. Party leaders suggested the high command that instead of following dictates of "arrogant" NC leadership it would be proper for the party to adopt aggressive posture. Insiders in the party said that Congress Ministers who met with party leaders today at New Delhi made it amply clear that Congress was not going to get any benefit in continuation of alliance with NC because NC has lost credibility in the State. "A Congress Minister during the meeting argued that stand taken by the party leadership on the issue of new administrative units is right and there should be no climbing down on this issue", sources in the Delhi said and revealed that party Minister said that by threatening to resign Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is adopting pressure tactics so party should ask Omar to take decision on this issue". Sources said that party leaders tried to convince the high command that PDP is right choice for party in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. They argued that activities of PDP is by and large confined only in Kashmir Valley so this party is not a challenge for Congress in other parts of the state namely Jammu and Ladakh regions. Furthermore, Congress leaders argued that there was anti-incumbency factor against NC so deserting the "incredible" NC at this juncture would help the Congress to improve its tally in the coming Assembly elections. Party leaders argued that alliance with PDP would also help the party to retain its tally in Lok Sabha elections also. Party leaders have also made it clear that it would be difficult for the party to face Lok Sabha elections if any concession was given to NC on the issue of creating administrative units at this juncture. |
