| KPs seek intervention of BJP, others | | Opening of Sharda shrine for pilgrimage | | JAMMU, Jan 28 : Intensifying their demand for opening of Sharda temple in PoK for Hindu pilgrimage, Kashmiri Pandits have sought the intervention of various political parties in this regard and urged them to impress upon the Union Government to take up the issue with Pakistan Government. In this regard a delegation of KP leaders has already met the BJP top brass including Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj recently in New Delhi and asked her to take up the issue with Union Government. It demanded that the KPs and other Hindus be allowed to visit the Sharda temple in PoK on the same pattern as the Muslims from Pakistan are allowed the visit the Ajmer sharif in Rajasthan and Sikhs from India are allowed to visit Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. The Kashmiri Pandits have expressed their resentment over Union Government's failure in taking up the issue with Pakistan at the time of opening of Uri -Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalkote roads with PoK in 2005.Besides Sushma Swaraj KPs delegation also met BJP National president Raj Nath Singh and CPI (M) leadership. They said that the Sharda is the presiding deity of Kashmiri Pandits and the Hindus from all over the country used to visit this sacred shrine till partition. Even the then Maharaja had kept a police guard round the shrine and also fortified it to maintain its sanctity. But after the annexation of some portion of J&K territory by Pakistan the Kashmiri Pandits could not visit this holy place which is being revered by them. ``Opening of Sharda temple for pilgrims is our main demand'' said Kundan Kashmiri president Kashmir Pandit Conference (KPC) who led the KP delegation to BJP and other parties in New Delhi. Kashmiri also took up the issue with BJP State leadership and urged its Legislative Party leader, Ashok Khajuria to take up it State Assembly during coming budget session. |
