Anantnag, Feb 4: Residents of Nowgam, Kapran and adjoining areas of Shahbad Balla of Dooru Anantnag staged a protest demonstration against the announcement of Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir, about granting the Tehsil status to Veerinag-Native village of the Minister for the third consecutive day today. Meanwhile locals are up against the committee recommending tehsil status to Yaripora, Qoimoh, Frisal, as these areas are few kilometers distant from each other Locals held strong protest demonstration against the Minister, who also represents the Dooru Constituency in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and alleged that Minister has conveyed the residents of Veernag through various media channels that Tehsil status has been given to the area contradicting the Cabinet Sub-Committee recommendations.
"If CSC has recommended Tehsil status to Shahabad Balla comprising Nowgam, Kapran and other areas, but we fail to understand how the minister can make an announcement that Committee has recommended Veerinag, which is just three kilometers away from the Tehsil headquarter Dooru." Zakir Yousf, a protester said. A collation committee of the area also alleged that the said minister conveyed his supporters and workers in Verinag to celebrate which added fuel to already prevailing irritation and residents were forced to held protest demonstration against the Minister's News announcement. However, they said that, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Farooq Ahmad lone assured them that CSC has recommended Tehsil Status to Shahabad Ballah of Dooru excluding Veerinag. Repeated attempts failed to contact the concerned minister. Meanwhile hundreds of protests in different areas of Anantnag and Kulgam alleged that Cabinet sub-committee has recommended Tehsil status to areas for their political gains and have ignored the areas that own centrality and were deserved. "Aishmuqam was itself a Tehsil before the times of Bakshi Gulam Ahmad but later it was shifted to Phalgam and now the CSC ignored it again which is having religious importance besides owns centrality in Khwadipora area." A protester Aijaz Ahmad said.
They said that for just political gains Mattan which is just five kilometers distant from Anantnag was recommended while as Seerhamadan was ignored.
Apparently, CSC has recommended Tehsil status to Yaripora, Qoimoh, Frisal and the three areas in Kulgam are at a distance of few kilometers to each other.
"Yaripora is 3 kilometers distant from Qoimoh and Qoimoh itself is only 3 kilometers distant from Frisal." A local said adding administrative units were recommended by the committee for their political gains.
