| CSC chairman facing situation of 'devil and deep sea' | | Opposition sharpens attack over CSC report | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 4: As the opposition parties have sharpened their attack and raised clamour over the report submitted by Cabinet Sub Committee on creation of new administrative units, both the coalition partners NC and Congress have come under a tight spot with loads of criticism pouring out from even Panchayat members in some areas. Congress and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand as chairman of the CSC in particular are facing a situation of 'devil and deep sea' with opposition and criticism getting loud from within the party itself over certain recommen-dations. The outcry became loud today when a group of Sarpanches and Panches in Ramnagar accused CSC led by Deputy Chief Minister of having succumbed to pressure of two MLAs from opposition and accommodating their demands. In what could be seen more as a protest than a press conference, noisy scenes and din prevailed while a group of PR representatives in Ramnagar expressed resentment and poured out anger pointedly towards DyCM in capacity of CSC chairman. The accusation besides other abberations pointed out with respect to some genuine demands for local areas not having been conceded, was that he has showered out of the way favour to Ramban MLA which has created resentment within the Congress cadres. Sources also said that within the party some leaders and cadres are also upset in what they see Congress also having granted favours to Langate MLA in acceding whatever he had been asking with respect to new units and ignoring what the party cadres had been aspiring. With resentment growing from within the party , Congress and the CSC chairman seem to caught in a situation of devil and deep sea. It was a day of press conferences with two major opposition parties BJP and PDP in their first public reaction spoke out and out against the recommendations made by CSC in its report, albeit on different lines and varied context. While both the parties gave a political punch to ruling allies in accusing the CSC of formulating the report on pure political considerations coupled with poll calculations, BJP hit out at them in the context of discrimination and injustice with Jammu. PDP also took pot shots more against its rival NC accusing the Omar Abdullah led Government of having taken the feeling of discrimination to a new and more dangerous level with inter regional feelings of discrimination having percolated down to the village level in what has been recommended in this report. |
