| KEA opposes government proposal of appointing Dr. Javed Chaudhary as Principal GMC Srinagar | | Threatens of agitation against medico | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Feb 4: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) today took strong exception to the state government's proposal of appointing Dr. Javed Chaudhary as the new Principal of Government Medical College, Srinagar. The KEA has held Dr. Javed responsible for the death of children at G B Panth Hospital here. KEA Chief Spokesman, Siraj Ahmad said that state government has always been playing with the sentiments and emotions of people of Kashmir valley. Siraj asked the state government to realize its responsibility towards the society and ensure that Dr. Javed is not appointed as Principal GMC, Srinagar. "The latest revelations suggesting that Dr. Javed would be the new Principal GMC, Srinagar are extremely disgusting and shocking. If the revelations are true then they will lead to great anguish among the people of Kashmir valley. People have already voiced their concern over the role of Dr. Javed in death of scores of children at G B Panth hospital," said Siraj. The KEA Chief Spokesman said that people would not allow Dr. Javed to assume the responsibility as Principal, GMC Srinagar. He said despite objections if the state government goes ahead with its plan of placing Dr. Javed as Principal GMC, Srinagar; then people would be forced to come out and launch agitation against the government decision. "Two enquiry reports one by the committee of legislative assembly and another by Dr. Showkat Zargar, Director SKIMS held Dr. Javed responsible for the deaths of infants at G.B Panth hospital. However one more enquiry carried out by a bureaucrat was manipulated and the non-medico exonerated Dr. Javed from the case. The bureaucrat did not take pains to go into the details of matter which is criminal in nature," said Siraj. The KEA Chief Spokesman said that Chairman, Kashmir Economic Alliance in a meeting with the state chief minister, Omar Abdullah had conveyed serious concern about the appointment of criminal as head of GMC with Omar assuring that there is no such proposal in pipeline. He said the great institutions of Kashmir have slowly been downgraded willfully. "SKIMS and GMC are the examples which instantly come to the forefront where faculty and procedures to appointments and service tenures are not treated at par with institutions of same quality and reckoning outside," said Siraj. He said doctors are appointed, given positions and sent for trainings abroad on political considerations and at the behest of the people who are least concerned with the well being of these institutions. The KEA Chief Spokesman said that granting extensions to the services of its own blue eyed people has never been tough or difficult for the government. He said in many cases the government has begged and lobbied for such extensions with various authorities outside. He added that such lobbying was hailed and shamelessly defended.
