Lecturer responds with
'threatening' of 'wrath'
Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Febr 4: Engrossed in the political wranglings alone, NC led coalition government which tires itself with claims of concern for youth of J&K, is actually hell bent to spoil and mar their future right at the stage of ripening towards buiding their careers. Call it apathy or non seriousness of Higher Education Department, it can be guaged from the fact that with less than a month period left to start the examination of Bachelor courses i.e. B.a, B.Sc and B.com courses of first and second year, the students of economics in the Government Degree College for Girls Udhampur have seen no classes for over 19 days.
The mess in the college came to fore after a lecturer of the college went for a course of Business Administration, which he is pursuing from the Jammu University. In what looks like indispensbility or sheer dependabilty on the lecturer, the college administration, surprisingly could not arrange any guest lecturer for the students of the college who are facig crucial time of the year.
The only lecturer of Economics in the Government Degree College for Women Udhampur namely Ehsan Ahmed Wani turned arrogant when this scribe tried to get his version about his course from JU and availability of any lecturer on his behalf in the college, he termed it "nothing unusual" and said, "It is hardly 9 or 10 days students are sans classes in the college which is a very small period".
He even threatened the scribe not to publish the story saying-"if the story is published in the daily, you will have to face the dire consequences and even the source who has informed you will also have to face the same for unveiling the college problem to the media".
Even as the scribe was polite in conversation and tried to explain there was nothing personal against him and there was no reason to feel worried and get arrogant if he had come to the varsity after completing the legal formalities,This did not work. Though the srcibe tried to explain the information from his end was required only ensure educational interests of the students who were suffering for want of a teacher, his tempers ran high further. He got irked to the extent that he threatened the scribe as also the source that both shall face the 'wrath' for publishing the news item.
Principal of the college when contacted highly condemned the attitude of the Lecturer and said if the lecturer has threatened anyone it is shameful for him as being a Ph.D, he should have not dictated media how to report and how not to.
