Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Feb 4 : Unidentified burglars made an abortive attempt to loot Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) of State Bank of India located in high security zone of Kishtwar at NHPC Semna colony, guarded round the clock by CISF. As per the details available with "Early Times" the burglars entered inside the ATM chamber after knocking down the back wall of the shop in which the ATM was installed. As per the police, the burglars after breaking into the ATM Chamber managed to breakdown the front security lock of the ATM, but managed to do away with cash of Rs. 600 lying in adjacent chamber commonly known as rejected cash chamber of the machine.
The burglars reportedly cut the electricity of the said ATM and there is apprehension that the CCTV cameras installed inside the ATM might have failed to capture the video of burglary. The local people also expressed their resentment towards CISF guards who fails to keep check on suspicious activity outside the main gate of the NHPC complex. As soon as the police got the information about the burglary, SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal, Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar Nazir Ahmed Ganie and senior officials of State Bank of India rushed to the spot to make the assessment of loot. During the inspection of the spot, police found that the burglars had failed to break the main chest of the ATM. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Baseer Khan also rushed to the spot and inspect the scene of crime. He also issued necessary direction to police with regard to the case. Police have also registered a case against unidentified burglars under relevant sections of law and started its investigation. Police has also recovered some items used by the burglars. When contacted Manager SBI Kishtwar said that matter was brought into the notice of higher authorities and said that Jammu team of the Chennai based company Fidelity Information Services (FIS) responsible for maintenance and services of the ATMS is on its way to Kishtwar to provide details to the police. Earlier on 18/19-07-2011, a burglar was caught red hand by the police inside ATM of the SBI installed at BSB road Kishtwar.
It may be mentioned that four years back, the burglars had decamped with rupees one crore Six lacs and forty Eight thousands from the branch of J & K Bank Kishtwar and out of the stolen cash police only managed to recover nearly Rs. 51 lacs from the arrested persons involved in the theft, but the mystery continues about the whereabouts of reaming Rs. 65, 48000.
