Kishtwar, Feb 4 : Chinar Power Projects Workers Union (CPPWU) District Kishtwar were at loggerheads with the management of GVK/L&T ltd. over denial of employment opportunities to local unemployed youths in 850 MW Rattle Hydro Electrical Power Project presently under construction at Drabshala village of Kishtwar District. The unemployed youths of Kishtwar District under the banner of CPPWU have launched an indefinite strike since Sunday in front of the office of M/s L&T ECC Company Drabshalla which is entrusted with the work for construction by the GVK management, the main contract holder of this prestigious power project awarded to them by the state government through bidding under BOOT. While talking to "Early Times", Chairman of the Union Joginder Bhandari said that the company has started playing with the sentiments of poor workers of District Kishtwar by providing employment to the workers from outside and ignoring unemployed youths of District Kishtwar in particular and erstwhile Doda District in general. He said that local qualified unemployed youths as well as skilled unemployed having vast experience from projects like 390 Dool-Hasti Power Project and 450 MW Baghliar Power Project. He said that the company has also ignored the local workers / Tradesmen and instead appointed people from outside the State. Taking strong note over the mismanagement of L&T Company, Joginder Bhandari has demanded that priority in jobs should be given to the local skilled, Semi-skilled and Unskilled workers and thereafter if management did not find trained youths from the District, only then the company should hire its manpower from outside District or State. He said that not only the management of GVK/L&T, the Sub Contractor working in the projects are also hell bent to recruit the employees/ workers from outside the State and flatly refuse to provide any job to the local youths. He warned that the Union will further intensify its indefinite strike at the sole risk and cost of the company. Beside Chairman of CPPWU, Mohammad Amin Butt, Anil Sharma, Bashir Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Khalil Tapal, Tariq Hussain, Sajjad Ahmed, Nisar Ahmed, Tariq Ahmed, Javed Iqbal Sheikh, Ghulam Hussain Ganaie, Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie, Shokat Ahmed Tapal, Nisar Ahmed Shah, Sumir Ahmed along with more than 200 supporters also participated in the Dharna outside the Drabshala office of the project management.
