Efforts afoot to have Duggar Channel for Jammu: Sham
Dogri Sanstha felicitates literary personalities

JAMMU, FEB 9 : The 70th Foundation Day of Dogri Sanstha was celebrated today, where renowned writers who have created a niche in the field of Dogri literature were felicitated by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma.
Those who were felicitated include, Padma Shri Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, Sahitya Akademi Awardees, Sita Ram Sapolia and late Bal Krishan Bhaura, Prof. Shashi Pathania, Dr. Bansi Lal Sharma, Krishan Sharma, Dr. Yash Raina and Dheeraj Kesar respectively.
The programme which was organized by the Dogri Sanstha at Jammu University on Sunday started with the screening of the Tarana of Dogri Sanstha, written and musically composed by Brij Mohan, directed by Sudesh Verma and designed and conceptualized by Chhatrapal. The Tarana depicts the history of Dogri Sanstha and growth of Dogri literature over the last 70 years. The programme was attended by a galaxy of writers and prominent personalities of civil society. While speaking on the occasion, Sharma congratulated the felicitated writers for having won national recognition and lauded the efforts of the fraternity for bringing laurels to their mother tongue by their efforts. He also praised and commented the consistent manner in which Dogri Sanstha has been tirelessly working for the promotion and development of Dogri. He urged upon Dogras to encourage their children to speak in Dogri, so that this sweet and beautiful language thrives in future. He also stressed the need to introduce Dogri language at the elementary level in schools so that students get acquainted to their mother language adding that younger generation has to play a pivotal role in preserving the rich culture and help it flourish. In order to encourage the Dogri writers, the Minister suggested proper marketing of their books and literature to enable financial support for them. This will also encourage and instill confidence in budding Dogri writers. With regard to introduce an exclusive Dogri Channel in Jammu, the Minister maintained that Government will take up the matter with the I&B Ministry with all facts and figures to fulfill the aspirations of large sections of the society. He said a large chunk of people in Jammu and Kashmir speak the Dogri and the demand of an exclusive Dogri Channel on the analogy of Kashir Channel is imminent.
