early times report Samba, Feb 11: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organised a financial literacy cum quiz competition programme for senior students of Government Higher Secondary School at Ramgarh in District Samba. The programme was organised by the District Development Manager of NABARD, Surinder Singh. Apart from about 250 students and staff of the school, B M Sharma, LDM, B K Goswami, District Manager, J&K Bank, S L Sharma, FLCC Head, Th. Prem Singh, Principal of the school, S Sambyal, Branch Manager, J&K Bank Ramgarh and Ajitpaul Sharma, microinsurance consultant were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Singh apprised that this programme is organised under Financial Inclusion Plan programme of Government of India with an objective for creating awareness about the importance of having a bank account, management of money, importance of savings, advantages of saving with banks, other facilities provided by banks and benefits of borrowing from banks. He apprised that financial inclusion is a flagship programme of Government of India and under this plan each and every household of the country is to be covered with a bank account in a time bound manner. "This is necessary to ensure the direct transfer of subsidies on LPG, Fertilizers & Kerosene, scholarships, pensions etc. to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The adoption of electronic benefit transfer would greatly enhance the efficiency of such transfers, besides reducing the scope of malpractices", he said. |
