| Jammu uses 30 percent less Power, pays 60 percent more tariff than Kashmir | | Of 'cheques' and 'imbalances' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 11: Jammu and Kashmir has consumed 23, 223 mega units of power in the last two years while Rs 2897 cr. have been collected as power revenue. Of these, 11115.41 Mega Units were consumed in 2011-12, while 12107.66 mega units were consumed in 2012-13. Giving this information in reply to a listed question in the state legislative assembly today, Government has stated that of the approximately 23 thousand mega units consumed in these two years, Kashmir province consumed approximately 13 thousand mega units and Jammu province consumed approximately 10 thousand mega units. Out of the approximately Rs 2900 cr power revenue collected in the last two years, Kashmir province has contributed Rs 1170 cr. as against Jammu which has contributed Rs 1726.61 cr. While in the year 2011-12 Kashmir contributed Rs 478.83 cr, Jammu contributed Rs 721.23 cr. similarly in the year 2012-13, against Rs 691.87 cr contributed by the valley, Jammu contributed Rs 1005.29 cr. To a question regarding defaulter government departments who have failed to pay up their power dues, the government smartly concealed the information explaining that the liability of the government departments is discharged by the government as all the power purchase remittance to the supplying agencies are made by the state government. The funds for electricity charges incurred by the government departments are paid by releasing funds in favour of departments which in turn draw and deposit it back in the government treasury. The government, however, clarified that all government departments paying directly to the PDD have been directed to pay up their pending power bills fully vide letter no. PDD/II/AC/66/2013, dated 12.12.2013. |
