Omar's tweet leaves Nayeem fuming
2/12/2014 12:05:10 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Feb 11: Ex-Secretary Tourism and now, a PDP MLC Nayeem Akhtar expressed disgust over 'non-serious' attitude of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Nayeem, who had staged a walkout during the question hour returned to the House during Zero hour to express his anger over Chief Minister's tweet about the protest of PDP legislators in the state legislative assembly. After the creation of new administrative units, village is pitted against village, brothers are up in arms against brothers, and here you have a Chief Minister, who is tweeting about behaviour of PDP legislators who are agitating for the people of this state, Nayeem said.
Raising the issue during the Zero hour, Nayeem referred to intolerance of National Conference (NC) towards the opposition and said 'CM is treating the house as servant quarter. How he has the time to tweet when the house is in session." They have never tolerated dissent and have always remained interested in crushing the opposition with their might, said Nayeem Akhtar, who is also PDP spokesman.
He said that Omar Abdullah has been taking opposition for granted and talking to it through tweets. "Is this the way opposition is treated in a democratic set-up," Nayeem asked. He maintained that PDP is a responsible opposition and has been agitating over the issue of government's utter neglect of certain deserving areas during the recently created new administrative units.
"Tweeting is like rubbing salt on the wounds. This is an unfortunate situation," added Nayeem. Referring to Indian parliamentary system, Nayeem said that no house works without opposition. But here it works, said Nayeem. He kept protesting while Deputy Chairman Javed Rana repeatedly requested him not to disturb the zero hour and allow the proceedings to complete. However, Nayeem Akhtar supported by his colleagues kept the protest on and later, staged a walkout over what he termed as 'disappointing and non-serious attitude' of the government towards the opposition.
He was accompanied by other PDP members which included Syed Asgar Ali, Mohammed Asharaf Mir and Yashpal Sharma. They too were heard shouting slogans against the government.
