| Kin of a Congress stalwart played important role in allotting Health portfolio to Shabir in 2013 | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 11: Even as Congress leadership has distanced itself from "tainted" former minister Shabir Ahmed Khan after alleged molestation case, a family member of a senior Congress leader had played important role in allocation of vital Health department to Shabir Ahmed Khan.
No one in the Congress was earlier had guts to raise question over allotting important portfolio of Health, with Independent charge to an "inefficient" an efficient but now gradually things started unfolding.
Credible sources in the Congress said that a group within the party was strongly opposing allocation of Health Ministry to Shabir Ahmed Khan when Cabinet reshuffle was held on January 15, 2013. This group argued that Shabir Ahmed Khan had failed to mark his efficiency as Minister of State so it would be disastrous to allot him important portfolio of Health with Independent charge.
This group was of the view that he should be given a ministry under an efficient Cabinet Minister so that he could learn before taking important responsibility, source said.
Credible sources further said that despite strong opposition, Shabir Khan was allotted important portfolio of Health (Independent charge) as he had patronage of family member of a senior Congress leader who was at the helm of the affairs.
Due to this support Shabir Khan managed important portfolio and after that he made transfer as an industry in Health Department.
Pertinent to mention here that many eye-brows were raised by Shabir Khan who was allotted Health Department with Independent charge after January 15, 2013 reshuffle. Earlier, this department was held by a Cabinet Minister but after the reshuffle this department was allotted to a MoS.
Credible sources said that on-going bungling in the Health Department was brought to the notice of the Congress leadership a number of times but no action was taken against Shabir Khan because he was enjoying patronage of family member of a Congress leader.
