| Out of 21513, 457 industrial units have become sick in J&K | | | Bashir Assad
JAMMU, Feb 11: Out of total 21 513 (11850 in Jammu, 9663 in Kashmir) industrial units 457 units have become sick with 368 units in Kashmir division and 89 in Jammu division. This was stated by Minister in charge Industries & Commerce Department in reply to a question of Professor Chaman Lal Gupta in the legislative assembly today. The Minister in his written reply to Gupta's question said that there were only 3518 industrial units in the state prior to eruption of militancy (i.e. upto 1988-89) while there are 9663 industrial units in Kashmir division at present and 11850 units in Jammu division. The minister said in order to identify the industrial units of J&K state which have become sick due to onset of militancy in the state, the government of J&K vide government order No. 47-IND of 1999 dated 10-02-1999 constituted a State Level Revival Committee with the terms and conditions that incentive be given only to such units which are potentially viable where the promoters undertake to start the business and where the track records of the promoters is not adverse. The second condition was that at the refinance/survey stage the financial institutions/Banks be consulted. The minister said pursuant to various decisions taken in the above said committee, 368 sick units were identified in Kashmir division out of which 59 units have been sanctioned soft loans by the government under rehabilitation package while in Jammu division among the identified 89 sick units, 08 units were approved vy State Rehabilitation Committee for soft loan. The minister said the government has also constituted a Sub-Committee vide Order 166-Ind of 2013 to conduct fresh survey and ascertain the present viability of all the sick units. The committee has conducted the survey and submitted its report which is presently under consideration. To another question of Professor Chaman Lal Gupta, the minister said an amount of Rs. 70.38 crore have been spent during previous plan. The achievements of the year are that under Small scale Industrial Units 1028 units were registered during the year which generated 6801 employment with the investment of 257.11 crore. The Minister said under Large and Medium Units, 22 new units have been registered during the year which generated 3296 employment with 946.97 crore investment. |
