JAMMU, Feb 11: After remaining headless for over two years, state government today appointed the chairman for the State's Human Rights Commission (SHRC). Governor, NN Vohra, today appointed Rafiq Fida as acting chairman of Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). Fida would take over with immediately. The government has recognized his services and contribution in the commission and necessary orders have also been issued, the official said. Fida, who was the senior most member of the commission, is serving in the commission since June 2011 and has passed some land mark judgments regarding some important, serious and sensitive matters, he added. Commission, was functioning under tremendous pressure and legal difficulties without the chairman from October 2011. Earlier a retired judge Bashir-ud-din completed his term of three years as the chairman of the commission. With the appointment of Rafiq as acting chairman, a long pending demand of human rights activists and other stake holders has been fulfilled, the official said. |
