Jammu, Feb 21: Speaker Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul today issued directions to the Government through Minister of state for R&B Sajjad Kitchloo to probe the allegations of scam in the repair/renovation of Samba -Mansar road leveled by MLAs of the National Panthers Party. Refuting the claims of the Minister who was replying to a listed question of NC MLA Bimla Luthra during Question Hour in the State Legislative Assembly Thursday, NPP MLAs led by MLA Samba Yashpal Kundal claimed that the Samba Mansar road was in dilapidated condition and no repair/improvement work had been done on the road. Alleging a scam, the MLAs claimed that the information given by the Minister was wrong and misleading. They sought a direction from the Chair to the Government to investigate the claims of the Minister. The Minister, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo in his reply had claimed that while the improvement/repair of the said road was taken up under state plan projection at an estimated cost of 39 cr., 34 cr had been expended till March 2013, while another 17 lakhs were spent during the current financial year. The Minister admitted that the figures were provided to him by the department and agreed to personally ascertain the facts in accordance with the directions of the Chair. While the NPP and the BJP staged a walkout from the House alleging a scam, Mehbooba Mufti, while expressing her anguish at the absence of the senior Minister for R&B from the House alleged that while works on many roads in Kashmir were tendered out way back in August 2013, contractors were not ready to execute work as they were demanding their pending payments which were not paid to them by the government. She demanded to know when the payments to the contractors would be made so that the work on new projects could start. |
