| Young entrants' salaries halved, Legislators' perks doubled and CM says: "My hand holding of youth above political motives" | | | Abodh Sharma JAMMU, Feb 21: Call it an irony of misfortunes that the Government that impelled the youth of the State to work at less than half their legitimate wages for the first five years of their careers in the veil of 'New Recruitment Policy' arguing paucity of resources, announced Club Class air travel for its Legislators besides doubling their car and home loan ceilings and DA for attending the sittings of the Legislature. This bonanza for the legislators was announced for the 'honourables' the previous day notwithstanding the fact that just two years back, the legislators had accorded sanction to a proposal to more than double their salaries within no time. Many a legislators had at that time argued that since they were placed higher in the hierarchy of protocol than the Chief Secretary, the senior most bureaucrats in the State, their emoluments must also be higher than the gross salary drawn by the Chief Secretary. Less than two years after that more than hundred percent hike, on Thursday, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah announced to enhance the car loan and housing loan of Legislators from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh thus enabling them to avail a loan of Rs 10 lakh. Ironically, the Government has announced this recent extravaganza for its legislators without sparing a thought for the youth of the State, whose entire course of life was changed forever by the Government by bringing New Recruitment Policy that created huge uprising till Government got the policy approved by the State High Court and J&K salary rules amended. As per the new policy, a person only after putting five years in job will be entitled for full salary. While the legislators had exhibited unprecedented coordination cutting across party lines in giving accent to the bill proposing salary hike for themselves, Government with similar eagerness got the bill making New Recruitment Policy a law passed in the State legislature thus making youth of the State work for half the salaries for five long years. It is interesting that while Omar Abdullah had argued paucity of resources to create more Government jobs and hence justified his New Recruitment Policy, his Government has been with shameless indifference doubling perks and salaries of the legislators. "This is time Omar Abdullah pulled off the giant hoarding that he has reserved for himself at the prime location in the city as it mocks at us every time we pass by it," said a young Government employee recruited through New Recruitment Policy, ruing double standards of the coalition Government. |
