| 185 religious places of Kashmiri Pandits still in damaged, dilapidated condition in Valley; admits J&K Govt | | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, Feb 21: State Government's repeated claim that religious places of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir valley have been restored was exposed today when it admitted in the legislative council that 185 out of 542 religious places in Valley are still in the damaged or dilapidated conditions. The information was given by Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation department in response to question of MLC Ravinder Sharma, who had sought information regarding number or religious places, damaged and in dilapidated condition in Valley. The Government has further informed that maximum religious places 17 out of 30 were damaged in Kulgam. Astonishingly, where maximum religious places have been in Kulgam which is represented by CPI (M) MLA M.Y. Tarigami, while Shopian district stands number two in the list of damaged. "14 out of 22 religiou placed have been damaged. In Anantnag 40 out of 129, Bandipora 1 out of 8, Baramulla 26 out 58, Budgam 14 out of 23, Pulwama 21 out of 94, Kupwara 28 out of 52, Srinagar 19 out of 90 and Ganderbal 5 out of 36", the reply read. Surprisingly, in reply of second question asked by MLC about the number of religious places whose land and other properties have been encroached, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir said that no encroachment has been reported on said land. "As per the inputs received from Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir no land and other properties belonging to religious places have been encroached upon or sold in any district of Kashmir valley", the Govt informed Upper House. In its further detail provided to the Upper House, Government informs that 40857 Kashmiri Pandit families have migrated from Valley and 869 KP families were still residing in Kashmir. "9126 families from Anantnag have migrated while 158 families are still residing there, in Kulgam 2226 families migrated and 77 still residing at their ancestral houses, 4057 families from Baramulla migrated and 41 families are still there, in Budgam 3902 families migrated and 41 are still there, in Pulwama 2773 migrated and 133 still residing in Valley, in Shopian district 1207 families have migrated while 75 families are still there, 2985 families of district Kupwara have migrated and 9 families are still there, in Ganderbal 744 families migrated and 32 families are still residing there and from Srinagar district 13442 families have been migrated while 273 are still residing at same places", the reply reveals. Government further informed the House that (in year 1997) 29,074 KPs migrated families were registered and at present the number reached at 40, 857 families. "The increase is due to bifurcation of families and not due to fresh migration", Govt informed, adding that regarding those families which migrated from Valley and registered outside the state were approximately 21, 333 families. |
