| Of Rs 8.51 Cr from Centre, Rs 1 Cr released, work going on at snail’s pace | | Dogra Art , Culture facing utter neglect under NC Government | | Bivek Mathur JAMMU, Feb 21: Dogra Art and Culture is facing utter neglect under ruling National Conference-Congress Government as majority of the historical monuments have not seen any renovation and repair work despite heavy funding from Government of India for the same. Member Legislative Council (MLC) Naresh Gupta today raised a discussion under Rule 60-A of the rules of procedure and conduct of business in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council about the repair/restoration works being carried out by the State/Centre to repair the historical Mubarak Mandi complex in district Jammu and sought to know the progress made in this direction. Minister for Tourism replied to the member that under 13th Finance Commission Award, Projects of various heritage buildings i.e. Raja Amar Singh Palace, Dogra Art Museum, Badi Deodi, Royal Court and Gadvai Khana and Mahal of Raja Ram Singh's Queen were sent to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for an amount of Rs. 53.95 Crores. Accordingly, Rs 50.00 Crores were sanctioned by the Government of India out of which Rs. 8.51 Crore was released as first instalment. The reply further reads that restoration work of Royal Courts, Gadvai Khana and Badi Deodi has been entrusted to Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and of the available funds, an amount of Rs 1.00 Crore has been advanced to the ASI for this work and the work is still under progress. Under another Mega Tourism project, 3-heritage buildings i.e. Raja Ram Singh Palace, Durbar Hall and Central Courtyard (Dewane-Aam) were sent to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India (GoI) for an estimated cost of Rs. 24.92 Crores. The Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 16.80 Crores and Rs 3.38 crores has been received as first installment for the same. Astonishing is the fact in the reply about the work of Raja Ram Singh Palace taken up by the Construction Division of Tourism department is that Government in the reply has neither shown the amount spent till now nor has shown details of physical achievements made for the construction work and as far as the work on Central courtyard is concerned, the reply reads that the tenders for central courtyard have been floated and work will be taken up soon. Another deliberate aversion in the reply about prestigious and long awaited cable car project between Peerkho, Bahu Fort and Mahamaya Temple at the estimated cost of Rs. 40.00 Crores is that the reply of Government for the same is- work will be started shortly without mentioning the date and estimated time of starting or completion. |
