| Govt reduces power deficit by 4% in last 4 years | | | Et Report Jammu, Feb 21: Jammu and Kashmir Government has been failing to decrease the ever increasing power deficit as only 4% of energy deficit could be reduced in last 4 years while energy requirement increased to additional 606 MWs in 2013-14 from its corresponding year. The power scenario of the state for the last ten years has shown very poor improvement in decrease of power deficit level as the deficit remained an average near 33% in these years. There has been seen huge gap between the seasonal peak power demand and availability in last ten years and the gap is increasing with each passing year. The energy deficit during 2013-14 was 5308.38 MWs (29.45%) while energy requirement was 18022.38 MWs and the restricted energy availability was 12714 MWs. During 2012-13 the energy deficit showed increase to 5560.96 MWs (31.47%) and power requirement was 17669.46 MWs, during 2011-12 the energy deficit was 6207.59 MWs (35.83%) and the requirement was 17323 MWs.Likewise, during 2010-11, the energy requirement was 16544 MWs and power deficit was 5877 MWs (35.52%), during 2009-10, the energy requirement was 15656 MWs while energy deficit was 5418 MWs (34.61%), during 2008-09 the energy deficit was 5602.79 MWs (37.99%) and requirement was 14750 MWs, during 2007-08 the energy requirement was 14037 MWs and deficit was 5293.04 MWs (37.71%), during 2006-07 the energy requirement was 11343 MWs and energy deficit was 3106.47 MWs (27.39%). Besides, during 2005-06 the energy deficit was 2586.62 MWs (24.63%) while 10503 MWs was the requirement on that particular year. During 2004-05 the requirement was 9640 MWs and energy deficit was 2334 MWs (24.21%). The trends show that the state has failed to reduce energy deficit level. |
