| GAD decision on catch up rule snowballs into controversy | | | ET Report JAMMU, Feb 21: The General Department order of General Administration Department (GAD) of implementing the catch up rule has drawn a hornet's nest with all organisations of down trodden people up in arms against the decision and demanded its immediate revocation by terming it against the interests of SC, ST employees. According to sources the SC ST and OBC Employees Confederation, Retired SC, ST OBC Employees Forum, SC Legislators and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have joined the hands not only to oppose the move but launch a decisive battle for the rights of the down trodden communities. Sources said the leaders of these organisations also met representatives of the government and launched a strong protest against the GAD order. They also brought the issue in the notice of Chief Minister and demanded immediate revocation of order failing which they will be forced to take recourse to agitation and the government will be responsible for all the consequences. All the SC MLAs including Bharat Bushan, Prof Garu Ram Bhagat, Durga Dass, Yashpual Kundal and others took up the issue with higher ups in Government besides raising it in the Assembly early this week and disrupting the Question Hour for some time. The SC ST and OBC organisations while questioning the GAD move termed it a highhandedness and anti poor and down trodden mindset of the State Government which wants to deprive the people of the state Constitutional benefits. Meanwhile the Confederation which held a meeting here today under the chairmanship of its president R K Kalsotra appealed the people of the down trodden communities to unite and fight for their constitutional rights in the State with full might.Kalsotra, while taking a dig at the Government said that by issuing the order GAD wants to deprive the community of Constitutional benefits which will not be allowed to happen at any cost and members of the Confederation will launch a decisive battle in this regard. He also made an appeal to Government to revoke the order failing which the members of the down trodden communities will be forced to ghearo State Assembly. BSP State president Tulsi Dass Langeh, while expressing his surprise over the decision said this has exposed the coalition Government and its claims regarding welfare of SC, ST and OBC communities are totally hollow. BJP general secretary Bali Bhagat while commenting of GAD decision held Congress responsible for the same. He said the Party should have openly taken a front against the decision and warned to pull out from coalition in case the decision was not revoked within in days. But to taste the power and take full advantage of it the Congress party is giving lip sympathy to members of down-trodden communities. |
